India Must Stop LTTE's Sinister Attempt to Threaten Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity of Sri Lanka

Colombo, 29 March, (Asiantribune.com): Letting the disruptive pro-LTTE forces in Tamil Nadu get away with impunity the outrageous acts against the existing Indo-Lanka friendship and cordial relations has been disappointing for citizens of both countries. It will sow the seeds of dissent that will ultimately threaten the territorial integrity of India, according to most observers who are shocked beyond belief that the Indian central government and Tamil Nadu government have not reprimanded Dr.S.Ramadoss, Thol. Thirumavalavan and others who were involved threatening the Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission in Chennai from functioning peacefully.

The threats were aimed at the publication of an unclassified collection of press clippings and articles depicting the terrorism practiced by the LTTE by Sri Lanka’s Deputy High Commission in Chennai. The High Commission has published it into a book entitled, “LTTE Under the Eyes of Tamil Nadu. “Which contains unclassified documents and press clippings of news items and articles published in the print media in Tamil Nadu, India. The threats by some pro-LTTE Tamil Nadu leaders signify an intervention in the affairs of a sovereign state and against all accepted norms of diplomatic protocol.

A few Tamil Nadu pro-LTTE political leaders are threatening to snap the Sri Lanka – India’s diplomatic relationship. Most observers believe that India and Tamil Nadu must put a halt to these threats.

India rightly banned the LTTE after the suicide bomber assassinated Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in May 1991. The ban on the LTTE was imposed on the ground that the LTTE was engaged in activities in Tamil Nadu which threatened the territorial integrity of India. The LTTE is breaking statutory Indian law enacted to thwart the heinous crimes of terrorism and genocide committed not only against Sri Lankans but also against citizens of India, including a Prime Minister of India and the procalaimed assassin are still fugitive to law.

It is strange that so far Indian Government as well as the Government of Tamil Nadu has miserably failed to reprimand and discipline the regional political leaders of Tamil Nadu for threatening the Sri Lanka’s Deputy High Commissioner P.M.Amza, and the diplomatic and local Indian staff.

Recently Dr. S.Ramadoss, leader of the Pattali Makkal Kadchchi an ally of the Government of India led by Dr. Manmohan Singh and the leader of Viduthalai Chi'ruththaika'l Kadchi (Dalit Panthers of India) Thol. Thirumavalavan called upon the Indian Government to close down the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commission in Tamil Nadu, while addressing a demonstration held in Chennai on Thursday, organized by the Tamil Protection Movement.

Leaders of the regional political parties of Tamil Nadu have blamed Sri Lankan Deputy High Commission in Chennai to have published a book amounting to a vituperative disinformation campaign against liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. This is high hand action threatening to cause disruptive fission of the Indian body politic. LTTE leader Prabhakaran made a divisive call his Heroes Day address when he asked the people of Indian origin to rise up. He mentioned the 60 million Indian living in Tamil Nadu by name. That was nothing but a call to arms against the government of India. LTTE - The International Dimension of TerrorismLTTE - The International Dimension of Terrorism

Asian Tribune learnt that Government of India has miserably failed to discipline these regional rabble rousers bent on dividing India into racial groups. The pro- LTTE groups in Tamil Nadu must not only be disciplined but must be subjected to prosecution. But so far India has failed even to admonished them for interfering with a sovereign nation’s diplomatic mission.

When India’s prime minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by LTTE’s suicide cadre in Tamil Nadu on 21 May 1991, India banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam on 14 May 1992 under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (37 of 1967).

The ban on the LTTE was imposed on the ground that the LTTE was engaged in activities in Tamil Nadu which threatened the territorial integrity of India.

But, today Tamil Nadu Government as well as the Central Government of India has failed to reprimand the regional political parties which unnecessarily interfering in the activities of a diplomatic mission which belongs to a sovereign nation.

Observers have asked the question: What has the Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission Chennai has done? It collected press reports that appeared in English and Tamil newspapers in Tamil Nadu and published them in a book form under title –“LTTE Under the Eyes of Tamil Nadu.“

The book has been divided into three sections – Editorials, News from English Media, and News from Tamil India. The purpose of publishing the book consisting of press clippings was clearly stated in the Introduction of this book as follows: “The purpose of this publication is to share with the world the atrocities committed by the LTTE in Sri Lanka and India, in particular Tamil Nadu. The selection of editorials and articles from the Chennai based print media cover only the recent period. “

The introduction further emphasize as follows: The LTTE has been involved in many human rights violations, not only in Sri Lanka but also in Tamil Nadu. Apart from being involved in smuggling explosives, arms and ammunitions, it has also been responsible for the cold blooded killing of innocent fishermen from Tamil Nadu and abducting South Indian fishermen and their fishing trawlers. Furthermore the book contains only unclassified information that has already appeared in the Tamil Nadu print media.

According to the Sri Lanka’s Deputy High Commission the book was not meant for public circulation. They said this was meant to disseminate LTTE’s atrocities to all the diplomatic missions in India and other parts of the world and also for the friends of the Deputy high commission.

Many Sri Lankans has expressed shock and dismay over India’s central government and Tamil Nadu government for not reacting immediately to the outrageous acts by S.Ramadoss, Thol. Thirumavalavan and others who were involved threatening the Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission in Chennai representing a sovereign nation who were only functioning peacefully.

Sri Lanka’s Deputy High Commission has simply followed the practice adopted by the Government of Sri Lanka which is clearly threatened by one of world ruthless terrorist organization that threatens to destabilize the country and divide it according to ethnic lines.

Even in October 2007, Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs published an unclassified collection of press clippings and articles depicting the terrorism practiced by the LTTE. The published book “LTTE - The International Dimension of Terrorism" contains unclassified documents and press clippings of news items and articles published in print and electronic media.

Therefore threats by the pro-LTTE Tamil Nadu leaders clearly signify a worst condemnable act of an intervention and encroachment in the affairs of a sovereign state and against all accepted norms of diplomatic protocol.
