Otara animal lover programme first anniversary

Colombo, 30 March, ( Project – Embark – was launched to prevent cruelty to animals by Ms Otara Gunawardena, Chairperson, Odel and Patron, Embark one year ago. She said that she was impressed of the support that Embark has received from the public, animal welfare groups and the corporate sector. She said that 1363 cats and dogs were treated through sterilization and vaccination campaigns, during the last one year and she was happy of the high number and said that it was the determination and hard work of their Team.

Embark is Ms Otara Gunawardena’s personal Corporte Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The project Embark was launched on 1 March, 2007 with the intention of bettering the quality of life for all animals in this country. Her aim is to prevent cruelty to animals in Sri Lanka by creating awareness, raising funds an simultaneously organizing individual projects with other animal-welfare organizations.

The locations covered are: Borella, Vanathamulla, Colombo 7, Colombo 8, Colombo 10, Nawala, Rajagiriya, Nugegoda, Kotte and Pita Kotte. The amount spent on these projects was Rs 2,430,000 and the funds were raised by proceeds generated from sales of Embark merchandise, sponsors and contributions
