Blessings Invoked in LA for Sprint Champion Susanthika Jayasinghe

Los Angeles, 06 August, (Asiantribune.com): The fans of Sri Lankan sprint champion Susanthika Jayasinghe in Los Angeles gave her a rousing send off and also participated in a religious ceremony invoking blessings for her success at the Olympic games in Beijing. Dharma Vijaya Buddhist Vihara in Los Angeles in association with the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Los Angeles, conducted a special blessing ceremony for Susanthika the Beijing Olympic Gold Medal hopeful at the Shrine Room of the Buddhist Vihara.
Ven. Dr. Walpola Piyananda Maha Nayake Thero accompanied by the Sangha members of the temples in Southern California chanted the pirith including the Jaya Piritha extending blessings to Susanthika Jayasinghe as she is about to leave Los Angeles, for Beijing, to participate in the Opening Ceremony of the forthcoming Olympic Games. The Sri Lanka sports authorities have selected Ms. Susanthika Jayasinghe as the Head of the Sri Lankan Olympic team and she has been in Los Angeles undergoing training in consultation with Los Angeles based sports instructors.
During the proceedings of the religious ceremony, Ven. Dr. Piyananda delivering the ‘anusasana’ highlighted the enormous contribution by Susanthika to her motherland, Sri Lanka and mentioned that he was confident about her success in receiving the gold medal for her 200 and 100 meter events.
The Sri Lanka Ambassador in Washington D.C Jaliya Wickramasuriya in issuing a message of felicitation highlighted the contribution made by Susanthika to the nation. Further he mentioned that he has placed his confidence in her obtaining the gold medal in Beijing, China in the 2008 Olympics.
The ceremony was attended by the staff of the Consulate General, the students of the Dhamma School (Daham Pasala) and their parents and well wishes who are Sri Lankans as well as non-Sri Lankans.
