Mervin Silva: Our local Hero, says Kelaniya residents

Colombo, 12 August, (Asiantribune.com): Residents of the Kelaniya electorate asked the government to ban MTV and SIRSA television networks and said these channels violates local cultural norms and slinging mud against the government and the Hero of the Kelaniya residents Minister Mervin Silva.A resident of the Kelaniya area said  Minister Mervin Silva  is their Hero and the Multinationals cannot destroy image of the Minister using a cheap publicity. The residents of Kellaniya organized a demonstration at the Lipton Circus in Colombo on Monday and appreciated the service rendered by the Minister and said MTV and SIRASA networks are working with Tigers.

Speaking to Asian Tribune a resident of the Kelaniya area said Mervin is their Hero and the Multinationals cannot destroy image of the Minister using a cheap publicity.

The protestors, brought in buses from Kelaniya, urged the government to ban the private broadcaster and called Mervyn Silva a god.

However local national political parties including a number of media organizations have condemned Minister Mervin Silva’s behavior and said the President Mahindha Rajapaksha must take stern action against the Minister.

A number of cases were reported in past about the minister’s behavior .The entire country witnessed how the Labour Minister Silva and his supporters snatched video cameras of a Sirasa TV crew that was covering the opening of Peliyagoda flyover at the invitation of the Highways Ministry and the Information Department.
