Gaza Massacre: An Appeal From Palestine

Ramallah, (Palestine), 30 December, (Asiantribune.com): Palestinian National Authority has appealed to the international community to intervene at once and stop the bloody massacre taking place in Gaza.It also appealed for medicine and medical items to be sent to Gaza.

Dr. Riad Malki, Minister of Foreign Affairs addressing the diplomatic community in Ramallah on 29th evening made the above appeal and gave an account of the situation in Gaza.

He stated that already the total number of casualties has exceeded 330 while over 1300 are injured. The number of deaths is expected to rise as the critically injured are without the required surgical operations and medicine.

He stated that the attack is so deadly that the number of casualties has already exceeded the number of deaths during the 1967 war. Gaza being a highly populated enclave having over 1.5 million people bombs cannot be accurately targeted at Hamas militia as stated by Israel.Civilian casualties are very high with a large number of children already dead and seriously injured.

Dr. Malki called on the diplomats to request their respective countries to pressurise Israel to end the seige and also to condemn it. He also stated that Egypt or any other Arab country should not be blamed with regard to the situation in Gaza.

Palestinian National Authority will be participating in the Arab League meeting on 31st but most wonder why the Arab League is taking so much of time to meet over this very important matter when even the Security Council met the very next day.

Hamas in the meantime turned down an invitation by President Mahmoud Abbas for a meeting on 29th at 6.30 pm.

Dr. Malki also made an appeal for urgent medical supplies from foreign donors. The list included such items needed in emergencies of this nature. Will Israel allow these items to enter Gaza?

It is quite obvious that the attack on Gaza is an election contest between the Ministers of Defence and Foreign Affairs who are trying to show the power of each other.. Hamas only gave them an opportunity forgetting the unsettled situations in USA, Palestine and Israel politically.General feeling in the West Bank is that the extremist attitude of Hamas supported by some Arab and Islamic countries paved the way for this situation.
