Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasinaminister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday at a views exchange meeting with the country’s top managers of print and electronic media said, terrorism and militancy has no religion and national boundaries.
The Prime Minister at the meeting held at her office also stressed the need for combating the menace of terrorism and militancy altogether.
"Terrorism and militancy have no religion, no national boundaries," Prime Minister said.
"We have to fight (this menace) together," Hasina told the editors in her first such meeting yesterday, since taking over as head of government 82 days ago with a massive majority in parliament.
The meeting that lasted two hours and 45 minutes with the editors and senior media executives, discussed with the issues ranged from a uniform education system to reforms in administrative systems, from restoring the rivers to review of TV-radio licenses, from tackling terrorism to trial of 1971 war criminals.
Some editors expressed mixed reaction on the education system of Madrasha. The Prime Minister in reply took a middle line saying, "Madrasas play a big role in (increasing) the literacy rate," she said. But she added in the same breath: "But this (system) must be modernized and updated."
The Prime Minister spent much longer than the time allotted for the meeting and had to reschedule or defer engagements including one with the army chief.
