Sri Lanka Minister Amarasiri Dodangoda passed away

Colombo, 31 May, (Asiantribune.com): Sri Lankan Minister ofMinister  Amarasiri DodangodaMinister Amarasiri Dodangoda Justice and Legal Reforms Amarasiri Dodangoda passed away Friday evening (May 30) after a prolonged illness. He was 67.

Mr. Dodangoda first entered parliament in 1983 representing the Baddegama electorate, which he has represented continuously. He had been the Cabinet Minister of Public Administration and Home Affairs since April 2004.

He served as Chief Minister of the Southern Province of Sri Lanka for one term from 1993 to 1994 and another term in 1994. He represented the Galle electoral district in the Sri Lanka Parliament.

The remains will be kept at Jayaratne Funeral Parlour in Borella today for the public to pay their last respects. The following day, the body will be kept in Parliament, and later in the day the remains will be taken to his Karapitiya home in Galle.

As per results of the last general election, Chandima Weerakkody who is chairman of State Mortgage and Investment Bank is to fill the parliamentary seat that is vacant following Mr. Dodangoda's death.

Mr. Weerakkody is incidentally the son of the late minister's elder sister.
