[b]Colombo, 01 February, (;[/b] Jim McDonald, Sri Lanka Country Specialist, Amnesty International (AI) indicated that Soosaithas K Marinthiran (31) labourer, Sebastiampillai P Ruban (24) bus conductor, Balakrishnan Rajeevmohan, (21) labourer and Selvarajah Uthayarajah from Jaffna have not been seen since being arrested in separate incidents in late December and early January and as AI feared that they are at risk of "disappearance" and expressed grave concern for their safety.

They were reportedly taken into custody from their homes by security forces personnel in Ilavalai during the nights of 8, 9 and 10 January respectively. AI indicated that witnesses claimed that some of those involved in the arrest or abduction were wearing plain clothes and that some had their faces partially covered with black cloth. The group arrived in two army vehicles and one white van. The current whereabouts of the three men and the reasons for their arrest are unknown, AI indicated.
