[b]Islamabad, 14 December (Aasiantribune.com):[/b] A strong earthquake measuring 6.7 on Richter scale jolted Pakistan and Afghanistan early on Tuesday morning.

The quake was felt in Peshawar, Chitral, Deer, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sialkot, Gilgit, Skardu and other parts of Northern Areas at 2.48 a.m. local time.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located 300 kilometers away from Peshawar in Hindu Kush region.

Frontier Works Organization Sources said that landslides after earthquake blocked traffic at three points on Karakorum highway between Gilgit and Upper Hunza in Northern Pakistan. Efforts are underway to restore traffic by removing debris.

Reports say that the quake was also felt as far away as the Indian capital New Delhi. The tremors were also felt in the Afghan capital Kabul.
