September 26:The Jaffna Municipal Council at its monthly meeting held on Septembe18 and 19, passed a resolution condemning forcible taxation measures adopted by the LTTE.

Top presidential adviser wants ethnic conflict resolved by next year

Yahoo News: Colombo, Sri Lanka, Sep 27- A top adviser to Sri Lanka's president said Friday that peace talks between the government and Tamil Tiger rebels should not be allowed to drag on and a solution must be found by next year.

Government, rebels to swap prisoners in Sri Lanka

Yahoo News: Colombo, Sri Lanka -Sat Sep 28- The families of seven military prisoners held for years in Tamil rebels' custody were flown Saturday in a government helicopter to a northern town where their loved ones will be released in a prisoner exchange.

Sri Lankan army and LTTE military exchanged prisoners around noon Saturday in the no-man land between the check points of the two armies that observe ceasefire since February 22. The eagerly awaited exchange of detainees in the custody of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and the Government took place as scheduled in the no man’s land in Omanthai today (28th September).
