Proposed defence reforms will remove security powers – Presidents Secretariat

The Island:The Presidential Secretariat on Friday said that the defence sector reforms proposed by the government would remove all powers and functions relating to security from the executive head of state. The release added that the committee report did not contain recommendations on the extension of services of army officers or a procedure for army procurements as requested by the President.

Tell the LTTE to Stop all Terrorist Activities Once for All.

My wish is that LTTE cadres should desist from terrorist activities. The
Tamil liberation struggle presently led by the LTTE has been tarnished
because of these mindless terrorist activities. It is time that all Sri
Lankan Tamils, particularly those expatriates living in Western democracies, tell the LTTE to stop all terrorist activities once for all.

Burma/Myanmar – Common position and Council conclusions

The Council adopted a Common Position amending its Common Position in order to take into account changes in the composition of the regime in Burma/Myanmar and extending it for another six months. The Common Position includes restrictive measures (visa ban, assets freeze) against a number of persons.
