Sri Lanka is now at war.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has placed the nation on alert and has appointed a task force to conduct the war.

“It’s a war that has to be won. It’s a war in which the enemy has to be exterminated totally,” he told a meeting of government legislators.

New York, 2 July 2002 - A new report released today by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), in advance of the XIVth International AIDS Conference in Barcelona, warns that the AIDS epidemic is still in an early phase. HIV prevalence is climbing higher than previously believed possible in the worst-affected countries and is continuing to spread rapidly into new populations in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Eastern Europe.
