New York, July 3, 2002 Hum an Rights abuses by both the Sri Lankan
government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) have fueled
the conflict and must be directly addressed in the peace process, Human
Rights Watch said today. Both parties should agree on human rights
safeguards to help resolve two decades of bitter conflict over political
control of the island's Tamil-dominated north and east. Face-to-face
negotiations, though subject to repeated delays, are expected to be held
in Thailand, possibly as early as July.

Colombo: 03 July 2002 Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has proved again its racism by its attempt
to use the unfortunate incident in the Eastern Province for its campaign
against Tamil Autonomy. It has claimed that this is a further attempt at
ethnic cleansing by the LTTE , where as the incident took place in
government controlled area and one of the LTTE of fices too, was destroyed.
