Expressing her total satisfaction that the May 22, 1979 resolution in the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the United States had focused the international attention to the plight of the Sri Lankan Tamil minority ethnic community, the prime mover of the resolution, which called for a separate state known as ‘Tamil Eelam’ for the minority community in the northern and eastern regions of the island nation, Marie Elizabeth Howe in a special interview with the Asian Tribune do still believe that the ethnic Tamils should have their own separate state.

The Tigers need some dead Tamils; lots of dead Tamils; civilians with women and children predominating. All of them killed either by the Sri Lankan Security Forces or – better still – Sinhala civilians. Bodies they can display to the world, to regain lost sympathies and legitimacy. Bodies they can use to scare the Eastern Tamils into rejecting both the Sri Lankan state and the Karuna option and accepting the LTTE as the sole defence against the Sinhala enemy. Bodies which will make the world more receptive to the idea of a Tiger Eelam.
