Sri Lanka born, internationally recognized expert on ocean waves, Professor Harindra Fernando of Arizona State University in the United States, who was in his native Sri Lanka in early 2005 to research the impact of last December tsunami, disclosed that illegal coral mining off the southwest coast allowed far more onshore destruction than occurred in nearby areas whose coral reefs were intact. Korea lends Rs 1.5 billion for e-Sri Lanka project

Korean Government has pledged a loan US $ 15 million (Rs 1,500 million) to finance the re-engineering the Government's e-Sri Lanka project and the
arrangement for the Programme was signed on 22nd August at the Ministry of Finance and Planning by Dr P B Jayaasundera, Secretary, Ministry of finance and Planning on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka and Lim Jae-Hong, Ambassador of Korea in Sri Lanka on behalf of the Government of Korea.
