U.N. Accused of Undermining Goal of Palestinian State

When Ban Ki-moon was asked about the scathing remarks by his former Middle East envoy denouncing the strongly partisan U.N. role in the ongoing peace talks, the U.N. secretary-general appeared more distressed with the public revelation of a confidential document than with the strong views articulated by his Under-Secretary-General Alvaro de Soto. "It was unfortunate that the document was leaked to the press," Ban told reporters Wednesday.

Also Mrs Pratibha Devisingh Patil is the only woman among present state governors in India. Mrs Patil is the nominee of Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and left parties for India's Presidential elections due shortly next month. The Gulf Daily highlights ill-treatment of a Sri Lankan woman by a "Bahraini Madam"

The Gulf Daily News, a popular English language newspaper from published in Bahrain, highlighted the extremely cruel treatment meted out to a Sri Lankan house maid working in a Bahraini Arab household. According to the news report she was physically injured by the master’s wife and children and ate cat food left on the floor for survival.

BJP decides to field Vice President Shekhawat as independent in Indian Presidential Election

Bhaironsingh ShekhawatPinning all its hopes on 'cross voting', the BJP led NDA on Monday decided to field Vice President Bhaironsingh Shekhawat as an independent in the June 19 Presidential election, projecting as his USP "his impeccable secular credentials". But the decision and its announcement were preceded by some 'confusion.' All the allies, notably, the Shiv Sena of Maharashtra were not on board the decision with the Sena leader Manohar Joshi telling the NDA conclave held at the Vajpayee residence on Krishna Menon Marg here that the Sena Pramukh would announce his party stand in Mumbai on Tuesday to coincide with the Sena Foundation Day.
