Lanka Parliament passes bill calling for fresh elections in Eastern Province

Sri Lanka parliament this evening passed a bill to provide for calling fresh nominations and elections in the Eastern Province with 68 voting for it and 12 TNA members voting against it. The government can now go for elections in the Pradeshiya Sabhas and Municpal Councils in the Eastern Province "anytime." Janaka Bandara Tennakoon, Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils forwarding the draft bill for debate in Parliament today defended the it saying "This Act has no discriminatory provisions against any people in the East."
