Sri Lanka offered to host 2008 SAARC Summit

Sri Lanka has offered to host the 2008 SAARC Summit, as Maldives will not be able to host the summit due to domestic preoccupations in 2008 It is now resolved that Maldives will be hosting the SAARC Summit in 2009. Sri Lanka offer to host the Summit in 2008 is expected to coincide with the sixtieth anniversary of Sri Lanka s independence. The Council of Minister welcomed the Sri Lankan offer. The twenty-ninth session of Council of Ministers met in New Delhi on 7th December 2007. All SAARC member States participated in these meetings. The Council of Ministers reviewed implementation of decisions taken at the 14th Summit in New Delhi in April, and took important decisions to move SAARC from the declaratory phase into implementation mode.
