Two hundred and seventy four finalists at CIMA Convention

The highlight of the at the bi-annual Chartered Institute of Management Accountants Sri Lanka Division (CIMA) convention held at the BMICH was Miss. Nilusha Anne Fonseka who brought credit to Sri Lanka by winning a world prize for P2 Management Accounting Decision Management at the May 2008 examination was given special recognition. Two hundred and seventy four passed finalists received their certificates, while 16 Sri Lankan prize winners from the same examination received their certificates and gold medals during the ceremony. Fifty-eight newly elected Associate and Fellow members also received their certificates at convocation.

"BBC Sandeshya is making glaring mistakes favorable to the LTTE in their reports" – Ranjit Soysa

In response to the statement made by Priyath Liyanage, Head of the BBC Sinhala service contradicting the news report appeared in the "Asian Tribune" dated 01 September 2008, Ranjit Soysa has reconfirmed that BBC Sinhala Service called "Sandeshiya" promotes its own agenda when broadcasting news about Sri Lanka, mostly favoring the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. He added, "The fact that the "Sandeshiya" by and large serves the leftist political agenda while soft peddling the LTTE terrorism is not contested by the writer as the Sinhalese listeners are conversant with the news and comments aired on the program."

It is with great distress that the Government and People of Sri Lanka have learned about series of terrorist bomb attacks in New Delhi last night resulting in loss of life and injury to innocent people. Sri Lanka unequivocally condemns such barbaric acts of terrorism which can never be justified under any circumstance for whatever reason.

GSM Asia Pacific Contab prelude to meet 3G and beyond

The 29th Conference of the GSM Asia Pacific Association was inaugurated Dr. Hamadoun Touré, Secretary General, International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and Lalith Weeratunge, Secretary to the President and Chairman, Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL). Dialog Telekom is the principal host of the three-day summit, and theme was ‘Beyond 21’ to coincide with the 21st Anniversary of GSM. The conference was attended by over 150 delegates from GSM networks representing 27 countries, officials from GSMA and other partner organisations. The conference focused on a host of key issues that would shape the future of the mobile telecom industry.

Eastern Province Chief Minister and Deputy Minister of Tourism to attend JATA Travel Fair in Japan

Under the new policy introduced by Ministry of Tourism, Chief Minister and the Minister of Tourism of Eastern Province, Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan Kumarasamy is joining the delegation, headed by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Faiszer Mustapha, to participate at Japan Association of Travel Agents - Travel Mart (JATA), one of the largest international travel fairs in Asia, to be held in Tokyo Big Sight from September 18 to 21. His participation at JATA is in line with the policy of the Ministry of Tourism, that is, to share the resources and expertise with all the provinces for better exposure of the country’s tourism being a concurrence subject.
