'All Party Meet' a Non-Event: ” A flop" - Dr. Subramanian Swamy

All Party Meet organized by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister on Sri Lankan Tamils, has suddenly become a non-event, when the principal opposition party of the state, AIDMK led by the former Chief Minister J.Jayalalitha made a public announcement that she will boycott it and called it ‘a hoax on the public.’ Also a lesser figure Actor Vijayakanth also said that his party will not participate in the all party meet. In the meantime Dr. Subramanian Swamy in a statement released to 'Asian Tribune' said after the boycott of Jayalalitha , the meeting as it now turns out is a gathering of parties who have been rendered by the Tamil Nadu public as agents of the LTTE. Sources said all those political parties in the pay roll of the LTTE are meeting today at the Tamil Nadu Chief Ministers Secretariat, however this meeting is not taken seriously by the people of Tamil Nadu.

Thaksin volunteers to hand back his diplomatic passport

Thaksin and his wife PojamanWhile Opposition leaders in Thailand are urging the Government to seize the diplomatic passport issued to the ousted Thai Prime Minister Thakshin Shinawatara, but reports reveal that he himself has volunteered to surrender his diplomatic passport to the Thai Foreign Ministry. Thaksin and his wife Pojman left Thailand in early August and attended the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Beijing. The couple then departed for London after jumping bail and failing to report for court hearings on corruption charges, prompting the court to issue arrest warrants.

Bogollagama and Stephen Smith discussed about the close ties which Australia and Sri Lanka have enjoyed for many years, in particular the strength of people-to-people links through migration and education. Over 5,000 Sri Lankans are currently studying in Australia, acquiring skills and knowledge which will help drive Sri Lanka’s development in the future.

World food scarcity and the challenges of climate change and bio energy

‘Rarely has the World Food Day assumed greater meaning than in present times, as rapidly rising food prices risk increasing the number of hungry in the world,’ according to the Food And Agriculture Organization (FAO). FAO was founded in 1945 on the 16th of October - a day which is observed as World Food Day (WFD) in about 150 countries all over the world. The theme for this year’s WFD is ‘World Food Scarcity : The Challenges Of Climate Change And Bio Energy’ as there is a strong need to expand global awareness to reduce the effect of severe climate patterns on agriculture and the impact of bio fuels on food production.

Sti Lanka Minister Milinda Moragoda meets Telugu Desam Party Leader Chandrababu Naidu

Milinda Moragoda with Chandrababu Naidu Minister of Tourism Mr. Milinda Moragoda met with leader of the opposition of Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu in his office with the senior officials. Mr. Chandrababu Naidu is also the founder of Heritage Foods. He is currently the president of Telugu Desam Party, the second largest legislative party in Andhra Pradesh. The two held bilateral discussions which focussed on cultural, economic and tourism issues. They agreed that further meetings between their respective officials should be held to pursue a number of areas of mutual interest. Minister Moragoda briefed on the measures taken by Sri Lanka to develop the tourism sector, with private-public sector partnerships. India he said is one of the largest markets for Sri Lanka’s tourist industry, providing around 20% of visitor arrivals.

9th IFMA India National Muaythai Championships 2009 at Jammu

9th IFMA India National Muaythai Championships will be held from April 6 to 9, 2009 at Jammu in the State of Jammu and Kashmir. The Championship will be organized by Jammu and Kashmir Muaythai Association (JKMA), an affiliated unit of Muaythai Federation of India (MFI) and Amateur Muaythai Association of India (AMAI). Around 300 players and over 50 officials from the 30 MFI-affiliated units from across the country will take part in this mega National Muaythai Championships at Jammu.

No Smoking, Please

The non-smoking fraternity in India has undoubtedly welcomed the government diktat that bans smoking in public places and enclosed public premises like restaurants and discos. Wap is a period to strengthen the ties between the Bhikkus and the laity

Today is the Wap Full-moon Poya. While Lord Buddha was living in the Veluwanaramaya Viharaya which was built and donated by King Bimbisara in the Rajagaha Nuwara (City) called upon all the Bhikkus to be within their temples during the Vas period. Ven Niwandama Samitha Thero, Viharadhipathi, Niwandama Dipaduththamaramaya Purana Viharaya explaining the significance of the Vap Full Moon Poya said that it is within the Vas period. He said that there are four Pasaloswaka Poyas - Esala, Nikini, Binara and Wap and it is a four month period.
