Mahinda RajapaksePresident Mahinda Rajapakse appealed to the People of Jaffna that it is time for us to forget the unfortunate developments of the past. He emphasized that "We shall take action to restore to the people of Jaffna and the North, all they have lost in the past. He said, "We must live in Unity." All that was lost to you due to terrorism will be restored. It will not be long before your brothers and sisters who are trapped in areas such as Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu can be happy. That is when, just like the New Dawn in the East, there will be the New Spring in the North, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa in a message to the people of Jaffna.

An Indian weekly ‘The Organizer’ has revealed possible links between terrorist group and the LTTE. “There are now FBI confirmations of visits by LTTE top brass to Kabul. The LTTE, which is fighting a losing battle with the Sri Lankan Army, is looking to the ISI-Al-Queda-LeT for weapons,” The Organizer website claimed. According to the website the Kerala-Tamil Nadu coast and Sri Lankan route is used by the Drug-Mafia for shifting drug raw material from largest producer Afghanistan to the processing factories in Central Asia. The LTTE and its leader Prabhakaran have been surviving for the past 25 years on drug money. They get arms in exchange of transfer and safe passage of drug laden ships and boats.

After an emergency closed-door session Sunday night, the 15-member Security Council issued a politically bland statement expressing "serious concern" over the devastating Israeli air strikes on Gaza and calling for an "immediate halt to all violence." The statement was predictable because the United States, a traditionally loyal Israeli ally, would never agree to anything smacking of a "censure" or "condemnation" of Israel -- even as the death toll rose to more than 300 Palestinians, mostly civilians. A single Israeli was killed during the three-day attacks.

Chitranganee Wagiswara, a career diplomat has been appointed as Additional Secretary of Sri Lanka's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to be in charge of Political Affairs, Policy Research and Training with effect from 22 December. She is a senior diplomat from the 1981 Foreign Service batch. She has served last as the Ambassador to France, since 2004 to October 2008.

The Ranaviru Fund - set up for the purpose of helping disabled Sri Lankan military personnel and familes of troops killed in action - is appealing for funds to purchase Defibrillator with built-in Cardiac Monitor & Recorder. Blood Warmer and 1000 socket gel liners. The socket gel liners are for the Ranaviru Sevana, Ragama and the other items are for the Army Hospital, Colombo. It is necessary to provide two gel socks per patient due to hygienic and practical reasons. These socks need to be washed daily due to sweating and it takes them up to two days to dry. So far only 323 Socks have been provided to date through the fund.

Thailand's newly-elected Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva was forced to postpone the Government Policy debate for today at 9.30 am in the morning. Earlier, Parliament President Chai Chidchob postponed the House meeting three times yesterday, from 9.30am to 2pm, then 5pm, and then to 9.30am today. The postponement was decided after thousands of red-shirt demonstrators, who supported former coup-ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra, besieged the Parliament from early hours of the day in attempts to blockade the new government policy address due to be delivered on Monday morning.

Palestinian National Authority has appealed to the international community to intervene at once and stop the bloody massacre taking place in Gaza.It also appealed for medicine and medical items to be sent to Gaza. Dr. Riad Malki, Minister of Foreign Affairs addressing the diplomatic community in Ramallah on 29th evening made the above appeal and gave an account of the situation in Gaza. He stated that already the total number of casualties has exceeded 330 while over 1300 are injured. The number of deaths is expected to rise as the critically injured are without the required surgical operations and medicine.
