Daya Gamage – US National Correspondent Asian Tribune

Sri Lankan nationals and supporters from across the United States held a rally Friday February 20 in the vicinity of the White House in Washington, D.C. in an effort to urge the US Government to put pressure on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) to release innocent civilians held by the LTTE as human shields in the northern part of the country. A large number of Sri Lankans attended the rally, representing the three major ethnic groups of Sri Lanka - Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims expressing the plight of the Tamil civilians trapped in the Northern Region of Sri Lanka due to the Tamil Tiger brutal effort preventing them to cross over to the Sri Lanka government declared safe zone.
