Thousands of youth between the ages of 18 and 24 are queuing up for enlistment at the various recruiting centres to join the Armed services since it has been announced that there is going to be an expansion in the Defence network in Sri Lanka although the war with the LTTE is over. A significant feature is that Tamil and Muslim youth are also being welcomed for recruitment. Two new Air Force bases, two new Security Forces headquarters, and 20 new Police stations will be established in the north to maintain security in the province before the government allows the Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the North to return to their villages, Defence officials said.
