Asian Tribune has its humble beginnings in Bangkok  nine  years ago. It is the venture of a Sri Lanka Tamil journalist, K T Rajasingham, who was forced to leave his country after LTTE raised its head and systematically targeted him.

Asian Tribune  moved to Sweden  as the founder relocated himself in  Sweden.

Chief of Staff, Sri Lanka Army – Major General G.A. Chandrasiri who is also the Competent Authority, Northern Region, for the Resettlement of Internally Displaces Persons (IDPs) in a candid discussion on the prevailing situation in the relief villages set up to accommodate IDPs said that assistance from the public has been tremendous with both public and private sector, social service and non-governmental organsiations and individuals across the country contributing many essential items, foodstuff and clothes to be distributed among the IDPs.

Solidarity among Sri Lankan Maha Sangha of Great Britain

Sri Lankan Monks living in many parts of the United Kingdom met on Wednesday 27th May 2009 at London Buddhist Vihara to revive "The Sri Lankan Sangha Sabha of Great Britain". Karnataka Minister donates Rs 45 cr gold crown to Tirupati

Diamond-studded gold crownKarnataka's Minister for Tourism and leading industrialist Gali Janardhan Reddy on Thursday presented a diamond-studded gold crown, estimated to be worth Rs.450 million (Rs.45 crore), to the famous Lord Venkateswara temple at Tirupati. This is the eighth and the largest crown to be presented to the temple, whose annual earnings from offerings and other sources are said to be over Rs.20 billion (Rs.2,000 crore). The Tirumala temple is considered richest in the world. It owns huge contributions of precious ornaments and jewels made by previous dynasties and the present day entrepreneurs.The temple reportedly owns 11 tonnes of gold ornaments. However, the TTD does not reveal the exact figures due to security reasons.

Petraeus praises operation against insurgents

The commander of US Central Command today praised the Pakistani army for operations it is waging against insurgents near the country's border with Afghanistan. "These have been quite impressive operations and I think Pakistan deserves some significant credit for it," Gen. David Petraeus said of operations in Pakistan's Northwest Province. Petraeus spoke today at the Center for a New American Security about the so-called "Af-Pak" strategy President Barack Obama's administration laid out in March. One of the key features of the plan to change course in Afghanistan is to broaden the operation to include Pakistan.

Sethu Samudranm project - Karunanidhi urges Centre to restart

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi Thursday urged the central government to restart the Rs.2,427-crore (Rs.24.27 billion) Sethu Samudaram shipping canal project. Inaugurating the Rs.616-crore Ramanathapuram combined drinking water scheme from the state secretariat here through video conference, Karunanidhi said: "The Sethu Samudaram project initiated by the last UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government is 60 per cent complete and got stalled due to the conspiracy of some. The present government should take steps to restart the project." "I hope the present government will take necessary steps towards that. With the cooperation of the present government we will complete the project," he added.
