The Tamil Leader Amirthalingham to be remembered

London, 24 August, (Asiantribune.com): The Tamil veteran leader, late Appapillai Amirthalingham is to be remembered in London, on his 82nd birthday. Late Amirthalingham who first contested unsuccessfully as an Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchi(Federal Party) candidate at Vaddukoddai in 1952, and he continued to lead the Sri Lankan Tamils since his untimely demise in 1989. He was the General Secretary of the Tamil United Liberation Front and was the Leader opposition from 1977 to 1983 in the Sri Lanka parliament.

Oppositions in Sri Lanka Invited to Join the Development Process

Colombo, 24 August, (Asiantribune.com): Sri Lanka’s Minister invites the main opposition; United National Party, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna and Tamil National Alliance to join with the Freedom Alliance government led development process of the country. Agricultural Development and Agrarian Services Development Minister Maithreepala Sirisena speaking at a function held in Kundasale to welcome Foreign Employment Promotion Minister and Defence Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella as the new SLFP chief organizer in Kundasale, invited other parties to take part in the development process of the country.

Nepal - SC directs Jha to take fresh oath within seven days

Kathmandu, 24 August, (Asiantribune.com): Nepal’s Supreme Court on Sunday directed Vice President Paramananda Jha to either take fresh oath in Nepali language within seven days or be relieved from the post of vice presidency. The verdict of apex court comes in the wake of Jha declining to take fresh oath in Nepali language after it recently nullified the oath of office and secrecy he took in Hindi language on June 23, 2008. Hindi is not an official language in Nepal yet.
