The official website of Sri Lanka Army, www.army.lk and one of another Sri Lanka Government’s site - Lanka Puwath www.lankapuwath.lk have been hacked by suspected LTTE hackers this morning (May 1).However Army Website is now back on the cyberspace. Sources of lanka puwath said, measures are taken to restore the website soon. Issuing a flash story by the www.army.lk said, Sri Lanka Army’s official news wing has been illegally hacked and technically 'assassinated' by suspected Tiger terrorists or their proxies, during the wee hours on Friday (1st May), inserting some horrible and gruesome images.

The report was released by the State Department Thursday, 30 April as required by U.S. law to give a full and complete report on terrorism with regard to those countries and groups meeting criteria set forth in legislation to the Congress.

Bangladesh main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chief Khaleda Zia and her two sons on Thursday submitted petitions to the government to quash 20 political cases filed against them during the past army-backed caretaker government under a state of emergency. A group of lawyers led by Mahbub Uddin Khokan applied to the Dhaka district magistrate Zillar Rahman at around 1pm to withdraw these 20 and a further 10 cases against BNP leaders. Khaleda faces four corruption cases, elder son Tarique Rahman 11, younger son Arafat Rahman Coco five, BNP MP Moudud Ahmed six, Khaleda's younger brother Shamim Iskander and his wife two and Coco's brother-in-law Mostakim Reza faces two.

Former Head of United Nations Economic Affairs Division Dr. G. Uswattearatchi said on Monday (April 27) that the current global financial crisis had forced many economic and business pundits to re-examine their pet theories and rewrite what they have taught so far. He was speaking on the Global Economic crisis at a meeting organised by the Royal Asiatic Society of Sri Lanka (RASSL) at the Mahaweli Centre, Colombo 7.Dr. Uswattearatchi referred to the unprecedented high rates of economic growth the world saw in 1998 to 2008. These, he pointed out, gave the first clue that those high rates were unsustainable. "Then how did those rates takes place? The high rates of growth were the outcome of some unusual eventualities. A group of countries including China, India, Japan, Malaysi Singapore, Taiwan and most petroleum exporting countries in West Asia accumulated savings, which they lent to the United States of America and Western Europe. That kept the interest rates low."

Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama speaking to his Australian counterpart the Stephen Smith, on Thursday, appreciated the continuous interest expressed by Australia on the current development in Sri Lanka. He stated that the close dialogue and engagement between the two countries in this manner was an encouragement to Sri Lanka’s efforts. Minister thanked the Australian Government for pledging Aus. $. 4.5 million in humanitarian assistance for the urgent need of civilians displaced in the North. Further, Minister Rohitha Bogollagama welcomed the constant stand taken by the Australian Government against the establishment of an Independent Tamil State.

US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton testified before the Senate Appropriations Committee on the $83.4 billion budget request today and asked the Senate to pass the fiscal 2009 supplemental funding request. Most of the request –about $76 billion would go to the Defense department and would directly support operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan while the rest would fund State Department operations.

Bangladesh government on Thursday named former bureaucrat Golam Rahman as the new chairman of Anticorruption Commission. Weeks after Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury resigned on personal grounds the government named the new boss of ACC. Rahman, a former Pakistan Civil Service officer who served as commerce secretary and secretary to PMO, is the third head of the Commission since it was created nearly four and a half years ago. Rahman was made chairman of Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission years after he ended his regular civil service career as a secretary. He started his career as a teacher and taught economics at Dhaka University in the late 1960s.

British Foreign Minister and other advisors MUST not forget that they are dealing with a sovereign country governed by a President mandated by the people to get rid of the LTTE. Britain and many of the Western countries who directly and indirectly provided nourishment to LTTE through the fronts operating in their respective countries having failed to save the LTTE from a military defeat are now on mission to save the LTTE leaders. Their concern for human rights and the well being of the Sri Lankan civilians was visible through their shameless protection given to the senior LTTE members and LTTE fronts.

Most of those knowledgeable about the present conflict know how insignificant the demise of the LTTE leader is in context to the overall plan operated by a group of invisible strategists living overseas. Yet, we all await the inevitable announcement of his death, his capture, his fleeing or the realism behind the notion that we may have all been befooled and we had been running behind an impersonator! The announcement though 30 years too late will nonetheless provide a nation and its people a moment to feel that justice has prevailed & sigh that soon peace will prevail as well.

Villagers in rural Burma are facing a severe food crisis, requiring urgent attention by the international community, according to the Karen Human Rights Group (KHRG), who today released the report Food crisis: "The cumulative impact of abuse in rural Burma." The 28-page briefing paper examines the widespread and sustained human rights abuses at the root of this crisis and states that the crisis is a direct result of systematic militarisation and exploitation by the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC), the military junta currently ruling Burma. In SPDC-controlled areas, the combination of military demands in the form of forced labour, arbitrary taxation, looting and ad hoc demands for food, money or other supplies, together with land confiscation, movement restrictions and forced relocation, have placed an unsustainable burden on villagers' livelihoods, exacerbated poverty and dramatically increased food insecurity.
