Now that the Delhi High Court, in a landmark judgment, has held that the Chief Justice of India cannot in the name of independence of judiciary refuse to make public declaration of assets made to him by fellow judges, the question arises as to whether the apex court will entertain an appeal against this judgment and thereby sit in judgment over its own conduct.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Tuesday refuted charges made by Leader of Opposition J. Jayalalithaa that his party had led the state into a debt trap. He said his government was mobilizing resources through loans only to implement welfare schemes and build infrastructure.

Marking the first death anniversary of the veteran fearless journalist Lasantha Wickramatunge, the ‘Reporters Without Border’ (RSF) in a communiqué by Vincent Brossel, Asia-Pacific Desk, RSF indicated that Lasantha’s brother, Lal Wickramatunge mentioned to RSF as “A year has gone by without any progress in the investigation into the murder of Lasantha Wickramatunge.”
