India-funded housing project to figure in Krishna’s Sri Lanka visit

External Affairs Minister S. M Krishna is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka on a four-day visit from January 16. A swift take-off of the massive housing project that New Delhi is funding for Sri Lankan Tamils will top Krishna’s agenda. Despite India being swift in post-war reconstruction of war ravaged Sri Lanka, the project has had been in a limbo due to delays in procedural clearances from both sides.

Students protest over Hijab ban

A group of 200 Muslim protesters representing the Muslim Group for Peace had gathered in front of parliament on Tuesday (10 January), protesting against the headscarf ban at a local school in Nong Chok district in Bangkok which was put in place in mid-2010. The protesters urged the government to urgently re-address the controversial ban towards the headscarf in the school.
