Arming Syrian Rebels: Another Afghanistan in the making!

After months of vacillation, the US appears to have made a decision to arm the Syrian rebels, citing what Obama administration called, ‘crossing the red line’ – a partially transparent reference to the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian authorities against the rebels. Unlike previous interventions, however, the US seems to be very reluctant make the move, as the risks of intervention are as grave as those of turning a blind eye on the daily macabre display on moral grounds.

Sri Lanka calls for international action to stem glorification of terrorism

Sri Lanka's Ambassador to the UN in Geneva Ravinatha Aryasinha has asked that greater attention be paid in the Global Counter Terrorism Strategy, to the role of terrorist support networks that take the form of front organizations, the challenge posed by the abuse of Information Communication Technology (ICT) and the propriety of the use or display of terrorist group emblems, insignia and symbols.

Letter from America: Iran election and the USA

Iran had a presidential election last week. The voter turnout was nearly 73%. That is, more than 36 million of nearly 50 million of eligible voters had cast their votes. The results are out. More than half the voters opted for the 64-year-old Hasan Rowhani – the only cleric to run in this presidential election.
