Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Sri Lanka and Solomon Islands

The Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Solomon Islands established formal diplomatic relations on 3rd July 2013. Dr. Palitha Kohona, the Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations, signed the Joint Communiqué on behalf of Sri Lanka, while Mr. Collin D. Beck, the Permanent Representative of Solomon Islands to the United Nations, signed on behalf of Solomon Islands.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa accepted an invitation from the Secretary-General of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) to host the high-level meeting in Sri Lanka in 2014.

Sri Lanka a trend setter in the Millennium Development Goals

Sri Lanka’s Senior Minister of International Monetary Cooperation and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr. Sarath Amunugama in his address said, The introduction of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in 2000 boosted our drive for a more people-centered development path, mainly by our own efforts for the past 65 years. Sri Lanka has integrated MDGs effectively in to the national development agenda. In addition to several targeted special programmes, government conducts a large number of development interventions with the aim of increasing opportunities for every segment of society.
