The Sri Lanka Pakistan Friendship Association held 47th Annual General Meeting 2012-13 on 13th July 2013, at the Sri Lanka Malay Headquarters (PADANG), Kew Road, Colombo under the distinguished presence of Maj. Gen (R) Qasim Qureshi, High Commissioner for Pakistan in Sri Lanka.

Statue of Jade Buddha for Universal Peace arrives in Japan

The statue of Jade Buddha for Universal Peace was ceremonially placed at a special opening ceremony held on Friday, at the Sojiji Temple in Tsurumi, Kanagawa prefecture organized by the Theravada Buddhist Association in Japan in association with Venerable YalagamuweDammissaraThero, Chief Priest of the Hachi-oji Temple in Japan andthe Embassy of Sri Lanka in Tokyo. The statue will also be placed for viewing in Saitama and Ishinomaki in Japan.

India to set up Handicrafts Villages at Hambantota

The Government of India is undertaking a project to set up Handicrafts Villages at Hambantota and Jaffna at a cost of LKR 40 million, on the basis of a Project Proposal received from the Ministry of Traditional Industries, Government of Sri Lanka. Accordingly, the Government of India will be setting up infrastructure for the Handicrafts Village in each of the identified sites at Hambantota and Jaffna under full grant assistance.

TNA Chief Ministerial candidate disappoints Sri Lankans hankering for reconciliation

A fresh face in politics, especially one who has not been tainted with all that is dirty and dubious with many politicians in Sri Lanka, is always welcome. Such a person, especially a retired Supreme Court Judge of eminence would be like a fragrant Lotus in a pool of mud. He could speak the truth and not be manacled by hidden agendas and ulterior motives, and baggage that politicians in power accumulate over time.
