Lanka SMEs hampered by regulations’ - Basil

Sri Lanka’s regulatory and legal framework has become a hindrance to SME development. “SMEs are the cornerstone of our economy. But when certain SME enterprises want to commence and start up, they have to go through almost 29 state institutions in Sri Lanka and fill countless paper forms before they get the go ahead. This has become a hindrance to their development” said Basil Rajapaksa, Sri Lanka’s Economic Development Minister on 04 October in Colombo.

Police killing of unarmed woman in Washington: baby witnessing the fatality

A distraught Dental Hygienist, Miriam Carey, 34, suspected of suffering from post-partum depression, who was in her car wildly hitting the White House sentry and then raced toward the Capitol Hill building in high speed was shot at and killed by Capitol Police and Secret Service members. She had her one year old daughter in her car with her.

Letter from America: U.S. Congressional Hearing on Burma -2

The House Foreign Affairs/Asia Sub-committee of the U.S. Congress recently held a hearing to examine the current political environment inside Burma (Myanmar), the growing human right abuses among its ethnic groups, and assess U.S. policy towards the country. The sub-committee was also interested to assess the Obama Administration’s decision to start military-to-military relations with Burma.
