Sri Lanka: 66th Anniversary of Independence of Sri Lanka celebrated in Brussels

On February 4th, The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brussels marked the 66th Anniversary of the Independence of Sri Lanka at a solemn event attended by a large number of Sri Lankans- Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims, Burgers and others representing the multiethnic and multi cultural society in Sri Lanka, along with many friends and well-wishers of Sri Lanka in Belgium.

Sri Lanka President Congratulates New Latvian Prime Minister

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa has written to congratulate the new Prime Minister of Latvia Laimdota Straujuma. Extending his best wishes, President Rajapaksa described the appointment of the country’s first female prime minister as “a landmark event in the history of Latvia.”

Northern Provincial Council Opposition Leader Remanded till 20th February

Today morning, the murder trial of Delft Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Daniel Rexigan came up for hearings before Kayts Magistrate S. Lenin Kumar and the Magistrate extended the remand of three accused persons - Kandasamy Kamalendran, Lundan Sasindran and Rexigan's wife Enida Rexigan until 20th February.
