Draft resolution of core group violates the constitutional provisions of Sri Lanka - Ambassador Aryasinha

Sri Lanka's Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva Ambassador Ravinatha Aryasinha, has said "the draft resolution on Sri Lanka deposited with the Human Rights Council by a core group comprising - the USA, UK, Mauritius, Montenegro and Macedonia, violates the constitutional provisions of Sri Lanka, is highly intrusive in nature and is in breach of the sovereignty of the Sri Lankan people and the territorial integrity of Sri Lanka".

The very constructive counter resolution on Sri Lanka introduced by eleven US Senators under pins the basic thrust of the US Foreign Relations Committee report on Sri Lanka 4 years ago when its chairman, the current Secretary of State, John Kerry cautioned against precipitative action that would lose Sri Lanka to the US and the West and move it to other political orbits. Of course Kerry now sings a different tune and the US Senators who moved the counter resolution have shown him what consistency in foreign policy is all about.
