Ambassador of Sri Lanka to France and Portugal and Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, Professor Karunaratne Hangawatte presented Open Papers at the Santa Cruz Palace in Madrid on Friday, 14th March 2014 as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Spain.

“Apologise, or pay me $3.8M!”

A Letter of Demand (LoD) seeking $ 3.8 Mn (Rs 500 Mn) in compensation began its journey towards Sri Lanka’s Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) organisation on 25 March as Rishad Bathiudeen (Minister of Industry and Commerce of Sri Lanka) voiced that he has been the target defamatory statements by BBS.

Research published on 24 March 2014 provides critical new insight on the harmful links between smoking tobacco and developing tuberculosis (TB). Regular tobacco smoking doubles the risk that people who have been successfully treated for TB will develop TB again—a condition known as "recurrent" TB.

Egypt court sentences 529 Muslim Brotherhood supporters to death

The Upper Egypt court has issued a death penalty to 529 supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood on charges of murder and inciting violence. Only 153 of those sentenced are currently in custody, the rest were tried in absentia.
