Call to stop water privatization and strengthen public water systems

On the heels of the World Bank's 2014 spring meetings, an international coalition of water rights groups from India and the United States issued a stern call for the institution to end its destructive promotion of water privatization under the guise of development. After a week of meetings, including high level events on water, no action has been taken to address the coalition’s concerns.

Sri Lanka participates in Malaysia International Tea & Coffee Expo 2014 (MITCE 2014)

The High Commission of Sri Lanka participated in the inaugural Malaysia International Tea & Coffee Expo 2014 (MITCE 2014) which was held in Kuala Lumpur from 27 to 31 March. The Fair was a unique tea and coffee promotional event in Malaysia, co- organised by the Tea Trade Association of Malaysia, Malaysia Muslim Restaurant Owners' Association and Perstauan Pengusaha Serbuk Kopi & Teh Selangor & W.P with the support of the diplomatic missions of Sri Lanka, Kenya, Indonesia and Vietnam in Kuala Lumpur. More than 100 tea and coffee sector buyers and suppliers participated in the event.

Way-out of Eliminating Balochistan Militancy

Strategically vital, rich in natural resources, land of courageous and traditional inhabitants, “Balochistan” is an indispensable component of Pakistan. Baloch masses and leaders out rightly supported 1940 resolution, played pivotal and active role in creation of Pakistan. The resolution demanded that Muslim majority needs a separate homeland in Indian subcontinent. Therefore, like other Muslims’ dominated areas, on 29th June 1947 “SHAHI JIRGA” of British Balochistan as representative body of Assistant Governor General (AGG) along with elected members of Quetta Municipal Body unanimously passed a resolution of forming part of Pakistan. The State of Kalat had customary over lordship on States of Kharan, Makran and Lasbela decided to join Pakistan in March 1948, the Khan of Kalat (KoK) also acceded to Pakistan on 27th March 1948.
