Japan - Sri Lanka Parliamentary League To Visit Sri Lanka

The members of Japan-Sri Lanka Parliamentary League are scheduled to visit Sri Lanka by the end of July, 2014. In this context, Ambassador Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda, met with both the President and the Secretary-General of the Parliamentary League to discuss the programme as well as other functionaries and meetings during their visit.

Elephant Pass to Resume Salt Production

The Sri Lankan Government has begun work to restore the Elephant Pass saltern that was destroyed by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in the 1980s. Once operational, the saltern could help Sri Lanka become self-sufficient in its salt requirement while generating about 2,000 job opportunities for youth living in the North.

Missing Persons Commission Concludes Public Sittings in Mullaitivu

The Presidential Commission to Investigate Complaints Regarding Missing Persons concluded its fifth round of public sittings in Mullaitivu on July 8 with 128 people submitting evidence before the Commission. This time, the public sittings took place at the Puthukkudiyiruppu Divisional Secretariat on July 5 and 6 and at the Maritime (Muhudubadapattu) Divisional Secretariat on July 7 and 8.
