Modi Raj In Public Perception

Rather than regretting that he was denied the pleasure of a 100-day ‘honeymoon’, Narendra Modi, the prime minister, should be pondering about the negative public perception of certain actions his government taken soon after assuming power. Of course, there are not decisions like the Saarc constellation at his swearing-in ceremony that have been universally hailed, though the worth of those gestures will be known only later.

July 19 marks the 67th death anniversary of a great Asian leader, assassinated in a failed attempt at regime change. The victim, General Aung San, architect of Myanmar’s independence, was to become the country’s first Head of State after the departure of the British colonialists.

What has TB got to do in an AIDS Conference?

Well almost everything. Tuberculosis (TB) remains the most common AIDS-defining illness and the leading cause of death in people living with HIV (PLHIV) with 1 in 5 HIV-associated deaths in 2012 attributed to TB. At least one third of the 35.3 million living PLHIV worldwide are infected with latent TB. An estimated 1.1 million (13%) of the 8.6 million people who developed TB in 2012 were HIV-positive too.
