TNA visit to India: Modi should direct them back to Sri Lanka

According to press reports, a TNA delegation is India and they are billed to meet Prime Minister Modi to discuss a political solution based on the full implementation of the 13th Amendment. If Mr Modi is to be taken for his word that the Sri Lankan issues is something for Sri Lankans to discuss and find a solution, then firstly, Mr Modi should not meet the TNA delegation as it would send confusing signals about what Mr Modi says and what he means.

Will illegal migrants outnumber northeast indigenous people in 30 years?

A decade ago, then Assam Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Ajay Singh made a startling revelation that about 6000 illegal Bangladeshis were entering into Assam daily. If his statement was correct, then the fate of the northeast people is terribly at stake. Now after 10 years, one can simply imagine what will be the current rate of daily illegal infiltration into Assam from across the International border. Now, it may be anything around 10000 illegal infiltration into Assam on daily basis.

Playing Football With Bharat Ratna

Politicians, generally not famous for their love of sports, have been accused of playing football with the Bharat Ratna (BR) nominations. While they have awarded it to a cricketer (Sachin Tendulkar), they are said to be seriously considering the name of a legendry hockey player, Dhyan Chand. In this medley of sports, the sufferer is the country’s highest civilian award. Many think it lost its prestige and sheen long ago when people began to suspect that there was more of politics than merit behind the award.
