Statement of the Liberal Party of Sri Lanka on the new Presidency

The Liberal Party of Sri Lanka emphatically welcomes the victory of Mr Maithripala Sirisena at the presidential poll. We are also grateful to him for continuing after his election to assert the values which the people of Sri Lanka have shown they admire. We now have a compassionate government, and we look forward to the constitutional and structural changes essential to promote equity, pluralism and the Rule of Law.

Dr Shurhozelie confident of CM Zeliang’s wining of Floor Test, dismisses PR rumors

President of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), Dr Shurhozelie, expressed confidence that if chief minister TR Zeliang was allowed to have “Floor Test” by the governor PB Acharya, they would easily vote out the other dissident group of NPF legislators led by G Kaito Aye. He also allayed fears that President’s Rule would come to Nagaland, saying that such thing would never happen in Nagaland.

Sri Lankan Presidential Election 2015: the fall of a political giant of our time

Our former president, Mr Mahinda Rajapakse, may be enjoying his well-earned rest in his rural village in the deep south of Sri Lanka with the folks that he is always comfortable with – the peasants who adore him. His departure, not completely unexpected, shows, however, that the overwhelming reliance of this particular stratum of the contemporary Sri Lankan society is not good enough for a leader to survive in the political theatre at national level, regardless of the charisma that one naturally carries.
