Lanka commences GSP+ process with EU

As bilateral trade between EU and Sri Lanka edged to $5Bn mark, Sri Lanka has commenced its talks on the recovery of the GSP Plus from EU on 24 March in Colombo, strengthened by previous positive vibes from EU-and 24 March talks were so comprehensive, it involved even technical trade capacity support to Sri Lanka from the EU.

Visit of President Maithripala Sirisena to China A fruitful new opening

Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena will begin his first visit to China on 25th March, 2015 a short period after assuming duties as President. It has been the normal practice for former Presidents of Sri Lanka to commence their official visits outside Sri Lanka by visiting India first which is followed by visiting China. This is to emphasize India’s importance as Sri Lankan’s closest neighbour and to strengthen Sri Lanka’s bilateral relationship with China owing to the cordial friendship the Sri Lanka and China have been securing over centuries.
