Landmark victories for global health – major defeat for the tobacco industry

High courts in India and the European Union today upheld strong measures to reduce tobacco use, including requirements for large, graphic health warnings on tobacco products and in the EU, a ban on flavoured tobacco products, including menthol, and authority for countries to adopt standardized plain packages.

Clash Report recommends disciplinary action against MPs Palitha Thewarapperuma and Prasanna Ranaweera

The report compiled on the clash which broke out in Parliament yesterday recommends the highest possible disciplinary action against MPs Palitha Thewarapperuma(UNP) and Prasanna Ranaweera (UPFA) for causing the tense situation to escalate into an exchange of blows, according to sources.

The report on the clash between MPs in Parliament  was handed over to the Speaker  by the Deputy Speaker Thilanga Sumathipala and Deputy Chairman of the Committees Selvam Adaikkalanathan.
