Government to Construct 971 Permanent Houses to Resettle IDPs in the Valikamam Welfare Centres

Sri Lankan Cabinet of Ministers has approved the construction of 971 permanent houses for the IDP families in the welfare centres at a cost of Rs. 1million per housing unit (Rs.800,000 for basic housing unit and Rs.200,000 for other infrastructure facilities.

USS New Orleans Visits Colombo July 24, 2016

The USS New Orleans (LPD 18) with embarked 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) will arrive in Sri Lanka for a port visit on July 24. The ship and embarked MEU are in Sri Lanka to increase bilateral ties with the Sri Lankan Navy and provide U.S. support and training for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.

Battling with three diseases and still going strong

I met 37 years old Nqobile Zungu, at the 21st International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2016) that is being held in Durban. And yes, her looks were deceptive in the sense that one could never guess that her outwardly healthy body and cheerful attitude masked not one but three diseases. Now a mother of two kids, aged 12 and 8 years, Nqobile suffered from asthma from early childhood. In 2002, when she was 23 years old, she was diagnosed with diabetes.

Kuwait to partner with Lankan fishery sector

Kuwait, the Persian Gulf economy with a longstanding aquaculture tradition, revealed its keenness for Lankan seafood -and also expressed its interest to partner with the Lankan fishery industry. “We import fish from other South Asian countries but not from Sri Lanka” revealed the Kuwaiti Minister of Commerce Yousuf M Abdullah Al-Ali on 18 July in Nairobi, Kenya.

Nepal PM Oli Searching For Survival Mantra

The No Confidence Motion against Nepal Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli registered on July 13 was to come up in Parliament for debate and voting on the 21 staffer it completed the mandatory weeks’ notice time. But the debate was deferred as the House could not achieve a consensus on whether to take up first the budget or the no confidence.
