World Water Day: U.S. Embassy Helps Provide Clean Drinking Water in Rural Sri Lanka

Students and teachers from Keselpotha Maha Vidyalaya in Uva Province joined representatives from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to inaugurate a rainwater harvesting system at their school, providing clean drinking water year-round.

The Keselpotha Maha Vidyalaya rainwater harvesting system is just one of 1000 such projects supported by USAID in Sri Lanka since 2012.
As the world marks International Water Day on March 22, the American people are happy to help provide students in rural schools in Sri Lanka with reliable access to clean water,” said U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka Atul Keshap.

The resolution on Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) was passed without a vote in Geneva yesterday,UN Human Rights Council adopted the resolution, which Promoted reconciliation, accountability and human rights in Sri Lanka, without a vote granting two years to fulfill recommendations of the 2015 resolution.
