Yesterday marked six months of detention for Jatupat “Pai” Boonpattararaksa, a prominent student activist who has been charged with lèse majesté offences under article 112 of the Thai Criminal Code and violation of the Computer Crime Act since 22 December 2016.

U.S. Ambassador Atul Keshap Visits Eastern Province

U.S. Ambassador Atul Keshap visited the Eastern Province this week to commemorate a milestone in U.S.-supported demining efforts and to attend the groundbreaking ceremony at a school to construct facilities to help communities displaced by natural disasters.

The demining ceremony in Batticaloa marks a milestone in the effort to reduce the dangers of landmines, becoming the first district in Sri Lanka to be reach “residual risk” status.
“This is a remarkable goal, and one that is achievable if all of us—Sri Lankan government, Sri Lankan military, local officials, international donors, NGOs— work together,” said Ambassador Keshap at the demining ceremony.
