World Championships 2017: Usain Bolt beaten in 100m final

The gold medal in the 100 meters at the world track and field championships went instead to Justin Gatlin, the 35-year-old American who has long been Bolt’s foil and who had not won a world 100 title since 2005. Gatlin has served two doping suspensions in his career, and the crowd booed him before the race.

Justin Gatlin, left, won the 100 meters in a time of 9.92 seconds. Usain Bolt, far right, finished third in 9.95, a hundredth of a second behind the runner-up, Christian Coleman.
American Justin Gatlin, right, got the win, but Usain Bolt, left, got the adulation, as the Jamaican finished third in his final 100-meter race.
