Vidya Foundation Awards Scholarships and Distribute School Items

Recollections of the University of Peradeniya

1942 was the year when the University of Ceylon, the first University, was established in Colombo in the premises of College House. The master plan of the University envisaged that all activities of the University will be shifted to Hantana in Peradeniya, the present premises of the University of Peradeniya after several name changes.

Aung San Suu Kyi stripped of Oxford honor

Au Aung San Suu Kyi has been stripped of the Freedom of Oxford for “turning a blind eye” to atrocities being committed against Rohingya Muslims. The decision to revoke the honor was made a few weeks after St Hugh’s College, Oxford, where she studied, removed her portrait from a display.

Councillor Mary Clarkson, who proposed the motion to strip Aung San Suu Kyi of the honour, said the unprecedented move was a call for justice for the Rohingya people

Ilankai Thamil Arasu Kadchi on the sly, has absolved the “Crusaders for Democracy” – the former militant LTTE cadres and has given them an opportunity to contest in the local government elections, in the North, as candidates of their Party.

Sivanathan Navindra alias Venthan, 42,  leader of the 'Crusaders For Democracy,' lost his right leg in a battle against the Sri Lankan Security Forces some 22 years ago.
