Asian Tribune presents time-line of escalating violence

Asian Tribune presents time-line of escalating violence in the north and the east since Prabhakaran's speech on November 27, 2005

Colombo, 08 December, (Asiantribune.com): Forty per cent of Jaffna District is under the control of the Sri Lankan Army and the other part is under the LTTE. Jaffna District comes under the Political Head of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) C. Ilamparuthi nom de guerre Aanchanayer.

After he launched the ethnic cleansing of the 75,000 Muslims in Jaffna in October 1990, Muslim leaders have been planning a campaign to have him tried for crimes against humanity in the Hague.

The recent abduction and killing of the Superintendent of Police Charles Wijewardene, who rushed to settle a dispute between the Army and the organised mob of the LTTE, was carried out after the LTTE cadres got instructions from Ilamparuthi. The Jaffna Tamils also hold Ilamparuthi responsible for the recent killing Rasathurai, the Principal of Central College, Jaffna. Pressed by the backlash over this killing, the LTTE Political Commissar of Jaffna shifted his Headquarters from Chavakacheri to Muhamalai in Palai . Informed sources say that he has vowed never to return to Jaffna until the LTTE gets rid of the Army.

The following time-line, culled from incidents reported in the pro-Tamil TamilNet and other news sources, was drawn by Asian Tribune to trace the developing pattern of violence in the north and the east after Velupillai Prabhakaran's Heroes Day speech delivered on November 27, 2005. Please note ”unknown gunmen” or ”unidentified gunmen” are terms used by TamilNet whenever LTTE cadres commit the acts of violence.
