Guwahati(Assam), 08 January, (Asiantribune.com): The Assam government is ready for a ceasefire agreement with the outlawed rebel outfit - United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), provided they respond positively to the 14-day 'safe passage' offered to the outfit to visit their families during the Magh Bihu (Assamese harvest festival).

Talking to reporters on Saturday, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that his government was willing to sign a ceasefire treaty with the ULFA if the outfit reciprocates the offer.

"I am extending my hands and asking them (ULFA) to do the same. We are willing to sign a ceasefire agreement with ULFA and try to settle the problem through talks.” Gogoi said in Guwahati, the main city of the state of Assam.
