Attempt to abduct HLD Mahindapala in Geneva foiled.

Geneva, 28 February, (Asiantribune.com): Investigation now reveals that there was a preplanned move by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) to abduct veteran journalist H.L.D. Mahindapala was foiled due to the alertness of the demonstrators who participated in the pro-democratic demonstration against the LTTE atrocities and violence, held on 22 February, opposite the United Nation Office in Geneva.

Mahindapala (75) a professional journalist, former Editor of 'Sunday Observer' and presently the Editorial Advisor and head of the Australian Bureau of the 'Asian Tribune' was in Geneva to report the two-day talks between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Tamil rebel outfit held on 22 – 23 February.

The alert Tamil leaders in Europe who participated in the demonstration noticed a car parked a short distance away from the demonstration organized by a registered NGO based in Geneva.

According to Sivarajah Rajasingham, a leader of the Liberal Democratic Tamils in Norway, who was one of the participants told "Asian Tribune," that he and other participants of the demonstration learnt that there was a move to abduct Mahindapala and the friends of Mahindapala took necessary steps to thwart any such move by the Swiss LTTE cadres.
